After she graduated from Washington Elementary, where she was a drum majorette in the marching band, Arnetta moved on to Ullman

High School. In tenth grade, she and seven friends started the Peace Ponies, a social and savings club. Members volunteered to help younger students and saved their money to give to needy families. In early April 1963, the Peace Ponies went to a mass meeting at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Martin Luther King Jr. gave the sermon that night. What does this characterization of Arnetta reveal

This question is missing the answer choices. I was able to find the complete question online. Since the excerpt is the same, I will omit it:

What does this characterization of Arnetta reveal?

A. her academic strengths.

B. her loyalty to friends.

C. her community involvement.

D. her spiritual devotion.

Answer:

What the characterization of Arnetta reveals is:

C. her community involvement.

Explanation:

The excerpt we are analyzing here was taken from the book "We've Got a Job: The 1963 Children's March", by Cynthia Levinson.

The purpose of the passage is to give us information about Arnetta Streeter, one of the participants in the famous march against segregation and discrimination that took place in 1963. Even though the author mentions where Arnetta attended school, the focus is not on her academic strengths or achievements.

<u>What the author shows is that Arnetta was always concerned about the community in which she was inserted. Her community involvement is exemplified by her participation is a club that volunteered to help younger students and that saved their money to give to needy families. Arnetta was clearly worried about improving others' lives.</u>

poizon [28]
<span>Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 to October 7, 1849) was an American writer, poet, critic and editor best known for evocative short stories and poems that captured the imagination and interest of readers around the world. His imaginative storytelling and tales of mystery and horror gave birth to the modern detective story. Many of Poe’s works, including “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” became literary classics. Some aspects of Poe’s life, like his literature, is shrouded in mystery, and the lines between fact and fiction have been blurred substantially since his death.</span>

Lexandra ran 2 4··5miles last weekend. This weekend she ran 3 1··5miles. How many miles did she run in all?
lapo4ka [179]

Answer: 6 miles

Explanation:

Since we are informed that Lexandra ran 2 4/5miles last weekend and that she ran 3 1/5miles thus weekend, the total miles that she ran in all will be gotten by adding both miles together. This will be:

= 2 4/5 + 3 1/5

= 6 miles

Therefore, she ran a total of 6 miles.

in this excerpt from “Porphyria’s Lover” by Robert Browning, which lines suggest that the speaker doubts the depth of Porphyria'
Airida [17]
In my opinion, those lines are: "<span>Too weak, for all her heart's endeavour, To set its struggling passion free From pride, and vainer ties dissever." At this moment, Porphyria confesses her love for the speaker. But he is on the verge of doubting it because he thinks that she is too weak to give herself entirely to him, and because she is obviously unwilling to cut those "vainer ties". He doesn't really explain what these ties are and why they are vain. Maybe he has low self-confidence and therefore thinks that he is not worthy of her. Anyway, the following lines ("But passion...") function as a counterpoint because she actually gave up a jolly party and came in the stormy night to the cottage just to be with him - which probably means that she really cares about him. But it doesn't neutralize his initial doubt.</span>
