History

Slaves worked for a person without anything in return and there was no time limit to their work. Slaves were sold like property.

Indentured servants signed contracts agreeing to work for a period of time (usually under 10 years) in exchange for something like their passage, shelter or even food.

There were a few laws protecting the rights of indentured servants. No laws to protect slaves' rights.

Hope this helps! :)

Why was slavery originally brought to colonial America?
professor190 [17]

Answer:

Slavery in the colonial history of the United States, from 1526 to 1776, developed from complex factors, and researchers have proposed several theories to explain the development of the institution of slavery and of the slave trade. Slavery strongly correlated with Europe's American colonies' demand for labor, especially for the labor-intensive plantation economies of the sugar colonies in the Caribbean, operated by Great Britain, France, Spain, and the Dutch Republic .
