Abstract

This paper examines several factors that affect the success or failure of social movements in producing social change. These factors include social movement organisation, mobilisation of resources, and protest ideology and tactics. Public opinion has an important mediating role in determining the success or failure of social movements. Reference is made to research on minority influence in social groups and to the kinds of tactics used and claims made by minorities to win resources and exert influence. Evidence is reviewed relating to the effectiveness of demonstrations in achieving changes in government policy and to the effectiveness of militant protest compared with peaceful demonstrations in producing change. Evidence is drawn from research on the impact of the peace movement, specific antiwar movements, and the antinuclear movement.

What Sumerian invention helped contribute to modern forms of transportation?
Juliette [100K]

The invention of the wheel by the Sumerians revolutionized the transportation. Wagons could be used to carry heavy loads. The Tigris and Euphrates rivers made transport of goods easy and economical. Riverboats were used to transport goods for trade. Strong currents moved the boats downstream, but because of the current they could travel in one direction only. The boats had to be dismantled after the trip downstream. The Mesopotamians used three types of boats: wooden boats with a triangular sail, the turnip or Guffa boat which was shaped like a tub, made of reeds and covered with skin, and the kalakku which was a raft of timbers supported by inflated animal skins.

1) Is there anything Native Americans could have done to not allow European explorers to settle in the Americas?
tatuchka [14]

1) They could've tried to defend the European Explorers to not set foot on there land, even though they might've all died in war.

2) Horrible, they got there first, its theirs, and they don't deserve the diseases the Europeans do, they can stay to their religion, and its not a big deal.

Why is the taj mahal a good example of cultural diffusion
Eddi Din [679]
The Taj Mahal a good example of cultural diffusion because it contributes to the spread of social activities and cultural beliefs from one country to another. It also mixed different cultures all over the world through religions, nationalities, ethnicities, and others. It is a good example of cultural diffusion because it unites cultures with their ideas, customs, and practices. Taj Mahal was built to be a tomb for the wife of Shah Jahan, Mumtaz, who died when she gave birth to their 14th child.
