Answer: Because the Epic of Gilgamesh is a great literary work, and is one of the oldest religious and epic poems. With this, the Epic creates a parallel to the bible and the society of Mesopotamia nearly 4,000 years ago. Gilgamesh is known to be the first great hero, and the epic is known as the 'first great masterpiece of world literature'. ... The Epic of Gilgamesh recounts the tale of the hero-king of ancient Mesopotamia. he Epic of Gilgamesh has several moral themes, but the main theme is that love is a motivating force. Other moral themes in this epic are the inevitability of death and the danger of dealing with the gods. The love within the friendship of Enkidu and Gilgamesh inspires both of them to be better men in different ways. The major theme of the poem is that of mortality. Gilgamesh must learn the difficult lesson that, even as a king, he too must face the reality of his own death.
