La Constitución de Cádiz es la ley fundamental de España, aprobada el 19 de marzo de 1812 por las Cortes gaditanas reunidas durante la Guerra de los Pirineos. Esta constitución, una de las más liberales de su época, fue, de hecho, la primera constitución en España.

La Constitución de 1812 estableció una monarquía constitucional (el poder legislativo pertenecía a las Cortes y el rey, el ejecutivo al rey) y el principio de soberanía popular. El rey prestó juramento a la constitución y no tenía derecho a disolver las Cortes ni a aplazar el tiempo de su convocatoria. Se proclamó el sufragio universal para los hombres, la libertad de la persona, la inviolabilidad del hogar, la libertad de prensa y la libertad de empresa.  

El 4 de mayo de 1814, seis semanas después del regreso del rey Fernando VII al país, se abolió la constitución, el 10 de mayo se arrestó a los líderes liberales y España volvió al absolutismo.
