I am on the altruism side. Yes, I do believe that people can be completely selfless. I say this because if you see a stray cat outside in the rain, someone might give the cat food, or give it shelter. That person isn't helping the cat because they will benefit, but because they feel sorry for the cat.
Honestly, the mot difficult part is just not spreading diseases. You can disinfect and clean as much as you can, but not actually getting anyone sick isn't guaranteed
