Albrecht Dürer was a famous German Renaissance painter and printmaker. As a young man, he worked as a goldsmith with his father, mastering the craft. <u>This made him very skilled with his handwork and reflected in his famous engravings.</u>

His engravings are detailed and done in such a manner that they look as if done with the freehand. Engravings and woodwork are hard to do with precision because they require graving the wanted image into the hard surface and not drawing or painting with the freehand. He used what he learned while training with his father into his engravings, doing first images into the copper plate and then inking it.

<u>The lines of Durer’s engravings are extremely thin and fine, there are many details and they are all done with great precision.</u>
