Answer: Khrushchev was driven from power.

Explanation:

There were multiple reasons for the removal of Khrushchev from his position as head of the party but the Cuban Missile Crisis was the tipping point. His enemies decided that he was weak enough to be removed and took their time convincing the powerful elements in the party of that "fact."

And so it was that even though Khrushchev gained a victory for the Soviets in the Cuban Missile Crisis (he secretly got the Americans to remove missiles from Turkey), he was removed less than two years after the crisis.

And third, interest groups are able to pressure congressmen (legislators) on some issues considered as urgent by them.
