They are a Slavic people who started arriving in Eastern Europe during the first wave of migration in the sixth century. Slavs today inhabit the areas of Eastern Europe. There are many similarities between the languages they speak, but also differences. Yet, they all belong to the group of Slavic languages. It should be noted that Byzantium had a lot of influence on Slavic culture, language, and literacy.
