However, if a rattlesnake approached a prairie dog colony, the prairie dog's "sentinels" would alert the rest of them, and they would hide in their holes. A rattlesnake could fit into the holes, but I don't think that snakes usually actively seek prey (they act more like a trap, waiting for prey to come to them). </span>
