- Prisons are supposed to be a public good. I'm not sure if that's still true if the prison is private.
I say the govt should run prisons so you prob ought to get input from someone who says disagrees.

They have no duty to the tax payer. The part of your taxes that is
allocated for prisons is supposed to pay for the welfare and
rehabilitation of prisoners, equipment, salary, and benefits for staff,
and the buildings. If the company's taking a profit, that money isn't
going toward those items, which increases recidivism rates and overall
costs of running the prison.
Most importantly, Roosevelt announced his vision for the world, "a world attainable in our own time and generation," and founded upon four essential human freedoms: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.

The United States wanted to build the Panama Canal in order to save time and money on trading. Before the Panama Canal, people had to sail all the way around Africa in order to get to the other side of the world, which costed much more money and took a lot longer. The US owns the canal because of the Hay-Bunau-Varilla treaty, which gave the rights to the USA to build and manage it.
