Cancer is unchecked cell growth. Mutations in genes can cause cancer by accelerating cell division rates or inhibiting normal controls on the system, such as cell cycle arrest or programmed cell death.
Reproduction
Cell division usually occurs as part of a larger cell cycle. Both of these cell division cycles are used in the process of sexual reproduction at some point in their life cycle.
Growth
In unicellular organisms, cell division is the means of reproduction; in multicellular organisms, it is the means of tissue growth and maintenance. Most tissues of the body grow by increasing their cell number, but this growth is highly regulated to maintain a balance between different tissues
