I think that the title of this poem relates to the subject of racism because when African Americans feel alone, it could feel like you are all alone in a dark car. This is a very good metaphor to how racism could feel to people. A car allows you travel to places and reach a destination. It is much more difficult to reach your destination in the dark, so this shows that they feel at a disadvantage because of the darkness, but they still have the potential to succeed because they are in the car.
