The dreams in the play symbolizes reality and how they were switched around with lovers who they didn't really love. I don't have the textual evidence but i know this because i had the same question.

The Youngers, the family and the main characters, are a black working class family. They can fight against racism because they all have clear dreams and they manage to be a united family. They can achieve their idividual goals in spite of difficulties. The mother of the family manages to ,finally, get a house in a white neighbourhood , and the Youngers are emotionally strong to face that situation. They have fullfilled their dreams - identities- ; they are a united family ; they have been empowered , therefore they can face racism.
