The epithets presented create the effect of showing Odysseus as someone capable of terrible things.

Explanation:

Odisseu is the hero of "Odisseia" a Greek epic that tells the adventures of this hero who tries to return home and meet the family he hasn't seen in years. As is common in Greek stories, heroes have several flaws in character and it is no different with Odysseus.

Although these character flaws are an important feature of his character, the epithets presented are created to show how Odysseus was feared by those who stood in his way, showing that he was capable of doing very bad things.

Johnny says his parents treat him badly. He has a terrible relationship with his parents, who are physically abusive and neglect him on a regular basis. Essentially, the Greasers are Johnny's surrogate family and care more about him than his actual father and mother. He would rather be noticed by Darry even for doing something wrong than never be noticed. Also, he would want to be cared for by Darry.
