The early explorers in North America founded settlements and named them after places or people from their home country. They oft

en added the word new to the town or city name from their home country. This is why we have place names such as New Hampshire and New England in North America. The places they are named after tell you where in Europe the explorers came from. For example, British settlers named the state of New Hampshire after the English county called Hampshire. Spanish explorers named many settlements after Catholic saints. For example, San Francisco was named after Saint Francis of Assisi, a twelfth-century Catholic priest.
Make a list of places (states, regions, or towns) whose names show similar connections. Make sure you find at least three to four places that show a connection to each of the three nations—Spain, France, and England.

What prevented the depression from reaching the USSR?
mr Goodwill [35]
The depression didn't reach the USSR because the USSR did not have a capitalist government. It also didn't have a stock exchange and didn't trade with any capitalist governments. The USSR was also very isolated because of communism.

Do you believe that Louis XVI should have been beheaded? Explain.
Andrews [41]

Answer:

Explanation:

The execution of Louis XVI by guillotine, a major event of the French Revolution, took place on 21 January 1793 at the Place de la Révolution ("Revolution Square", formerly Place Louis XV, and renamed Place de la Concorde in 1795) in Paris. At a trial on 17 January 1793, the National Convention had convicted the king of high treason in a near-unanimous vote; while no one voted "not guilty", several deputies abstained. Ultimately, they kissed him to death by a simple majority. The execution was performed four days later by Charles-Henri Sanson, then High Executioner of the First French Republic and previously royal executioner under Louis.

Often viewed as a turning point in both French and European history, Louis' death inspired various reactions around the world. To some, his death at the hands of his former subjects symbolised the long-awaited end of an unbroken thousand-year period of absolute monarchy in France and the true beginning of democracy within the nation, although Louis would not be the last king of France. Others (even some who had supported major political reform) condemned the execution as an act of senseless bloodshed and saw it as a sign that France had devolved into a state of violent, amoral chaos.

Which of the following is an argument of Americans who are opposed to immigration?
tester [92]

Answer:

The correct answer is C. Immigrants take jobs away from native-born Americans.

Explanation:

  • One of the reasons nativists opposed immigration is because they felt that immigrants were willing to work for any wage, which would make it harder for native-born American citizens to find jobs. The nativist movement in the U.S. began in the early 1800s with clashes between nativists and immigrants turning violent by the 1830s.
