Back in the 1800’s, cotton was known for making very fertile land in many areas of the south. Since more cotton started to be grown, a demand for cotton started rising as so did the demand for slaves. The slaves in the south would regularly work in the fields, obtaining cotton which also made them very valuable.
The peasants were pushed to their breaking point. Rampant inflation in the hard winter of 1788-89 led to widespread hunger in the countryside and in the cities, especially Paris. Wages did rise 22 percent, the cost of living had risen by 62 percent.
They both show times of great conquest and demolishing civil wars. The two were similar in their expansion of land, language, and resources. At the same time, they were very different with their views on government, religion, and leaders (Compare and Contrast the Roman Republic with the Roman Empire).
