Answer:

x = 4  ± √11

Step-by-step explanation:

hello :

x²-8x+5=  x² -2(4 )(x)+5

 x²-8x+5=  x² -2(4 )(x)+5 =  ( x² -2(4 )(x) +4²) -4²+5

                                      = (x-4)²-11 .....(   completing the square )

    x²-8x+5= 0   means :      (x-4)²-11 = 0

      (x-4)²=11      but : 11 =   (√11)²  =  ( - √11)²

x-4 =√11   or    x-4 =  -√11

x = 4  ± √11

Answer:

x = 4 ± \sqrt{11}

Step-by-step explanation:

To solve the equation let y = 0 , that is

x² - 8x + 5 = 0 ( subtract 5 from both sides )

x² - 8x = - 5

To complete the square

add ( half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(- 4)x + 16 = - 5 + 16

(x - 4)² = 11 ( take the square root of both sides )

x - 4 = ± \sqrt{11} ( add 4 to both sides )

x = 4 ± \sqrt{11}

Shelley is making a rectangular blanket with dimensions 8 1/2 feet by 5 1/2 feet. She purchases 10 yards of ribbon to put a bord
scoray [572]

Answer:

there are no options listed, but some statements that are true about this question are:

  • total perimeter = (8.5 x 2) + (5.5 x 2) = 28 feet = 9¹/₃ yards
  • since Shelley purchased 10 yards of ribbon, it should be enough
  • after finishing the blanket, Shelley will have 2 feet of ribbon left

HELP ASAP IM IN A TIMED TEST 8TH GRADE MATH
sattari [20]

Answer:

C

Step-by-step explanation:

Convert them all to the form y = mx + c

1)

4x + 3y = 15

3y = -4x + 15

y = -4/3 x + 5

2)

3x - 4y = -8

-4y = -3x - 8

4y = 3x + 8

y = 3/4x + 2

3)

y + 1 = 4/3(x - 6)

y + 1 = 4/3x - 8

y = 4/3x - 9

4)

y = 3/4x - 5

Z wants to buy five shirts worth 34 dollars each and three baseball caps worth 31
ella [17]

Answer:

$199.50

Step-by-step explanation:

10% discount of $34 = 10/100*34 = $3.40

so, a single shirt costs $34-$3.40 = $30.60

half off = 50% discount of $31 = 50/100*31 = $15.50

so, a single cap costs $31-$15.50 = $15.50

so, 5 shirts and 3 caps cost now

5*$30.60 + 3*$15.50 = $153 + $46.50 = $199.50

but careful - can this be a trick question ?

the phrasing of the problem description can also suggest that the discounts are only listed to confuse us and are already included in the mentioned prices ("worth" $34 - what does that mean ? because including the discounts they are currently "worth" their prices).

then it would just plainly be

5*$34 + 3*$31 = $170 + $93 = $263
