Listening to others is an important part of communication. It's impossible for people to communicate and properly understand each other if they don't listen. All of us have had the chance to meet at least one person who didn't seem to be listening to us at all. These conversations always end up frustrating for the person who is not being listened to, which often results in them stopping to care about the relationship.
