Eternal destinations, according to Roman Catholicism, refer
to paradise and hell. The Church affirms that after
death, the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin immediately descend
into hell, where they will suffer the punishment of hell's eternal fire, while
all who die in God's grace and friendship will go to paradise, but those who
are not yet perfectly purified will first go<span> to purgatory before entering paradise.</span>
