American ships off the high seas and prevented impressment of our sailors by England. (B) England and France needed our goods more than we needed their trade. They were at war and needed all the imports they could get. (C) The Embargo Act and the Non-Intercourse Act were embarrassingly close to a peace-at-any price policy. (D) Circumstances can make avoidance of war a wiser policy than insistence upon national rights. Answer: (C) The Embargo Act and the Non-Intercourse Act were embarrassingly close to a peace-at-any price policy

Explanation:

The Embargo Act of 1807 was simply a law that was passed so as to prevent the trading of American ships in foreign ports.

Based on the options that are given in the question, we should note that the options given in the question support the foreign policy of Jefferson and Madison except option C "The Embargo Act and the Non-Intercourse Act were embarrassingly close to a peace-at-any price policy". This doesn't support it but rather is against the policy.

Think back to previous discussions about the Declaration of Independence and the writing of the Constitution. Compare the meanin
jonny [76]
The difference is that the founding fathers claimed that freedom is a right for all men and the old south didn't take slaves to be people. For the southerners, every slave was only 3/5ths of a man, so they weren't people and therefore they couldn't have their freedom and the constitution did not apply to them. That is why slavery lasted as long as it did, because people fought abolishing slavery.
