Roy benavidez received the Medal of Honor for reason.
He was once wounded by a mine and re-gained the ability to walk (even thought doctors had concluded he would never walk again )
And he has also saved 8 men voluntarily and surely more that we may not know of.
Conclusion:yes he had gone beyond of what is expected in a soldier.
