Answer:

Cognitive dissonance, is a term used in psychology that explains the feeling of discomfort by a person who is facing two situations that contradict each other.

An example used to explain it, is the story of the fox who very much wants to eat a bunch of grapes that is in a very high place. As the Fox can not find a way to reach it, she gives up using the excuse that the grapes are green and bitter.

To alleviate cognitive dissonance, one can:

1- Change the behavior to relieve the situation of discomfort.

2- Try to justify the discomfort with new ideas

3- Justify the discomfort.

The main character is anxious to what will happened and doesn’t know what to expect. In the story it states “Something was wrong,” this gets you on the edge of your seat because before that part everything seemed fine. Other detail is “nothing happened. Then the side-jets spotted, and he was slammed sideways into the cot.” When you read, “nothing happened” you feel relief but then you read that he was slammed sideways into the cot. This gives you tension because it’s something that frightens you if it were to happen to you.

Answer:

D). Social referencing.

Explanation:

Social referencing is exemplified as the process through which the infants become able to understand or perceive the world that surrounds them. In this process, the infants show intuitive displays(by noticing the facial expressions of people around him/her and taking decisions accordingly) like an adult in order to regulate or control their behavior or conduct towards the environmental situation, object, or people.

In the given situation, the food preferences of Rodney and Sarah reflects that how they both have perceived the world surrounding them and how their preferences or behaviors have been emulated by it. They have observed the world around them and have been affected by it as they took cues(their taste preferences or choice decisions reflect references from society) from the adult people around them in the environment. Thus, option D is the correct answer.
