What danger of imperialism does Kipling refer to in his poem?
Simora [160]

Answer:

The answer is A. Imperialism can cause violence and resistance from native people.

Explanation:

The poem, White Man's Burden was written by Rudyard Kipling and published in 1899. The poem is was written during the US-Philippine conflict, and urges United States to "Join" the rising imperialism and hold the burden of an "Empire".

Although some people consider the poem to be somewhat racist and discriminating, the poem very well shows the contemporary views and opinions of the imperialistic nations at the time.

The answer is option A because,

In the poem, Rudyard tries to show that Imperialists need to colonize and help the indigenous people to develop and civilize. However, according to him, these native people will not repay their masters well.

One of these ways that the subjects repay their masters is found in the third stanza.  There, Kipling tells us that all the work that the white people do will end up being for nothing.  They will work hard to try to end famine and war, but it will not work.

  • Look at the stanza,

"when your goal is nearest

The end for others sought,

Watch sloth and heathen Folly

Bring all your hopes to nought."

In other words, the subject people will repay their masters by destroying everything they have been working for. Like violence and resistant from native people.
