But when this same topic is brought to light in ‘Silent Spring’, Carson writes, “... no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of new life in this stricken world. The people had done it themselves.(Carson, 1)”. This quote shows what can happen to environments that house people who are completely oblivious to the effects they have. Muir talks about how people are blinded by greed and are careless of their effects, but Carson talks about what can happen when people ignore problems like these.
