He, his nephew Axel, and their Icelandic guide Hans rappel into Iceland's celebrated inactive volcano then contend with many dangers, including cave-ins, subpolar tornadoes, an underground ocean, and living prehistoric creatures from the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras.
