In this speech, the author says that she spent her childhood reading American and British books, where the authors described people, climate, places and common situations for these two countries. She loved these books and wrote history using those foreign elements that did not exist in the African country where she lived. When she met the African authors, who wrote about what she knew, she realized that the books are adapted to their countries and this is very important to maintain the local culture and show people that they can be portrayed in the literature, regardless of what they are.
