The word "poetry" comes from the ancient Greek verb "to create." While a short story is usually written in recognizable sentences, a poem is composed of lines, which may not observe the usual grammatical rules. Furthermore, rather than being organized into paragraphs, a poem is made up of verses, or stanzas. A poem is written in lines while the short story is mainly based on lines of sentences. A short story is written observing grammatical rules while poems are written with the grammatical rules been foregrounded. Besides, there are also poems that are narrative and descriptive in nature as it is with the short story.
