In March 1865, Union General was waging a campaign against General Robert E. Lee’s troops in Petersburg and Richmond. They weake

A battle that had General Grant's men surrounding General Lee and his men, was termed the Siege of Petersburg as the battle took place in Petersburg and around Richmond.

However, while the Union troops had about 40,000 casualties, the Confederates had about 28,000 casualties without replacement, unlike the Union troops which had a replacement and we're able to force General Lee to surrender.
