The Nile was very fertile, and it was great for growing crops and fishing. Egyptians settled there because of this nourishment, and eventually the whole civilization grew around it. Hope this helps.

There was no national tax system and no straightforward laws of citizens rights. the articles allowed states to tax citizens which only led to an abuse of power. shays rebellion highlighted these problems because when farmers couldn't pay the states high taxes the courts just took land from them. the uprising showed politicians the need for a strong central government that would protects it's citizens (bill of rights) and oversee states rights.

Advantages

They need not fear that their vote will impeach them. In other words they get to vote their conscience.

The experience they gain from the years of service makes them experts in the particular law they are judging.

Disadvantage

Should they become ill (I'm thinking of the Supreme Court here), their vote may mean something if they are not there.

They become to set in their ways.
