Answer:

1. State the claim he opposes

2. Introduce his point of view.

3. Give reasons why he opposes the claim

4. Give reasons to support his point of view

5. Support reasons with evidences.

Explanation:

When opposing a claim, the author needs to take the following in to consideration.

Although, there may be more points to take note of but the following 4 must be included in the authors claim.

1. Every form of writing must have an introduction. In this case, the introductory to the author's writing must state the view which the author claim to oppose. This must be stated in clear terms without mincing words in other to avoid misunderstandings.

2. Next, the author must then introduce his perspective of the subject matter (in other words; he must present his own point of view). This enables the readers to have a glimpse into what the author intends to achieve with his writings.

3. Next, the author must give reasons (usually more than one) why he disagrees with the point of view he opposes.

4. Also note that, the author has to provide claims to support his own point of view. He should argue why his claims is better or more accurate to the one he opposes.

5. Lastly, provide proofs and evidences to backup his views; Every reason must be valid and and backed up with enough evidences. This serves as the concluding part of the essay.

Note that (2) and (3) can be presented interchangeably and

What reasoning does Machiavelli use in this passage?
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

Machiavelli uses deductive reasoning by first introducing the conclusion that new rulers must be cruel and then supporting it with evidence.

Explanation:

While inductive reasoning provides the evidence for the sake of the conclusion, deductive reasoning jumps straight to the conclusion in order to later on supply us with the corresponding evidence.

In the chapter XVII of Machiavelli's The Prince, the author develops a premises on how a new ruler must be cruel. He gives us the conclusion leaving us in anticipation of the argumentation.

Deductive reasoning is a very successful form of persuasion. Once we are given the conclusion, we await for the arguments and interpret them in order to corroborate and affirm the first statement.

This way by using deductive reasoning, Machiavelli makes his readers his accomplices in proving his point.
