Answer:

P = 48 feet

A = 84 square feet

Step-by-step explanation:

use the Pythagorean Theorem 2 times to find the bases of the two triangles created by the height of eight

1st Δ :  one leg is 8 and the hypotenuse is 10

          a² + 8² = 10²

          a² + 64 = 100

           a² = 36

            a = 6

2nd Δ :  one leg is 8 and the hypotenuse is 17

          b² + 8² = 17²

          b² + 64 = 289

           b² = 225

           b = 15

Perimeter = 10 + 17 + 6 + 15 = 48 ft

Area = 1/2(8)(6 + 15)  = 4(21) = 84 sq ft

Solve this application problem using a system of equations: The Springfield Movie Theater sold adult tickets for $4.10 each and
stiv31 [10]

65 adult tickets and 24 children tickets were sold

Solution:

Let "a" be the number of adult tickets sold

Let "c" be the number of children tickets sold

Cost of 1 adult ticket = $ 4.10

Cost of 1 children ticket = $ 2.70

Last Thursday, a total of $331.30 was collected from 89 movie watchers

Number of movie watchers = 89

number of adult tickets sold + number of children tickets sold = 89

a + c = 89

c = 89 - a ----------- eqn 1

They collected a total of $ 331.30

Therefore, we frame a equation as:

number of adult tickets sold x Cost of 1 adult ticket + number of children tickets sold x Cost of 1 children ticket = 331.30

a \times 4.10 + c \times 2.70 = 331.30

4.1a + 2.7c = 331.3 ------ eqn 2

Substitute eqn 1 in eqn 2

4.1a + 2.7(89 - a) = 331.3

4.1a + 240.3 - 2.7a = 331.3

Combine the like terms

1.4a = 331.3 - 240.3

1.4a = 91

a = 65

Substitute a = 65 in eqn 1

c = 89 - 65

c = 24

Thus 65 adult tickets and 24 children tickets were sold

An angle measures 72° less than the measure of its complementary angle. What is the measure of each angle?
Ronch [10]

Answer:

81 and 9

Step-by-step explanation:

Okay, so if 2 angles are complementary, it means that when they are added together, they equal 90 degrees. So using this, we can make an equation. Let's call one angle x and the other that is 72 less than angle x can be described as x - 72. Now let's make that into an equation.

90 = x + x -72

So in order to solve this, we need to get x by itself. So we need to add 72 on both sides, and the equation should now look like this:

162 = x + x

Now we have to add the x's together.

162 = 2x

Now in order to isolate x, you divide by 2 on both sides.

X = 81

So we now know the larger angle is 81, and the smaller angle which is 72 less, would be 9.
