igomit [66]

The ironic elements that is used to show the relationship between this husband and wife is exaggeration.

How irony is used in the story

Van Winkle is said to be a good natured and pleasant person but he is still described as henpecked.

His wife is said to be constantly nagging him and asking him to do household chores yet he is said to be a lazy person.

She is said to be eloquent yet the story tells us of her nagging which is not valuable.

Which excerpt from the passage contains a paradox and a pun?
m_a_m_a [10]
The correct answer is D. The phrase "whose origin was a Terminus" is a paradox because it's a contradictory statement that somehow manages to be true. The fact that Jack's beginning (origin) occurred at an end (Terminus) is a paradox. The statement is also a pun because by using the words "origin" and "Terminus," Lady Bracknell (the speaker of this line) is using the same words that train conductors used to describe their stops. The word "origin" was used to describe the first stop on a route, and the word "Terminus" was used to describe the final stop on the route. Therefore this line contains both a paradox and a pun.

In “Part Eight: The Word Shaker”, changes come to Himmel Street.

The change that happens to Liesel is the change from an angry, distrusting character to one that has a strong sense of family and friends.

When the book comes to an end, she has strong personal morals and ethics and although they are challenging to enforce, she stands by them, despite turbulent and testing times.

What happened in the book?

This is the character development that centers on the main character, Liesel who is stubborn and strong-willed and always angry at something.

After Himmel Street is bombed, this brings about a perspective change to Liesel as her loved ones are killed by the blast and this shatters her world and she says farewell to Rudy, only after he is dead.

She goes home with the mayor and Frau Hermann arrives and takes Liesel home with them.

Liesel remains in mourning as she refuses to eat and keeps the ash of the Himmel Street bombings on her skin as a form of remembrance, funeral, or respect.
