Following World War II, why was the Kuomintang in far worse shape than the Communist Party of China even though both fought agai

The CPC ended up with a lot more men.
Chiang Kai-shek died during the war.
The Kuomintang did most of the fighting.
Mao Zedong received a lot more aid.
