Answer and Explanation:

"The Scarlet Ibis" is a short story by James Hurst. These lines are at the beginning of the story:

Summer was dead, but autumn had not yet been born when the ibis came to the bleeding tree. I

t's strange that all this is so clear to me, now that time has had its way. But sometimes (like right now) I sit in the cool green parlor, and I remember Doodle.

The underlined portion is in the Present tense. It shows that the narrator is, at this very moment, sitting and remembering his brother. The highlighted portion, however, is in the Past tense. It shows the narrator is already reflecting about events from his past. The excerpt shows the narrator is not talking about the present, about what he is living now. He is referring to past happenings, to something that is now gone, and that he can only reminisce about. It is the use of the Past tense that shows us that.

Read the poem and answer the question.
dolphi86 [110]

Explanation:

In the poem , the poet uses the word ‘dance’ quite a few times .

In the 2nd stanza , Wordsworth had used the word ‘dance’ to show that the daffodils were moving to and fro due to the breeze . It seemed like the flowers were dancing joyously , as if in rapture , in the gentle breeze . The movement of the daffodils had been described as ‘ tossing their heads in a sprightly dance ’ .

In the 4th stanza , poet William uses the word ‘dance’ to show that his pleasure-filled heart started to dance when introduced to the memory of those 10,000 daffodils along the margin of the bay . The daffodils come back to the speaker's imaginative memory — access to which is a gift of solitude — and fills him with joy as his mind dances with the daffodils .

(Score for Question 1: ___ of 20 points)
Sphinxa [80]
In both stories the protagonists reach a point of self discovery that makes them value their upbringing. In Dade’s case, he realizes at the end of the story that he is alone in the world. “I feel alone in the world, in the way that makes me aware of sound and temperature.” Dade decides he will make his own way in life, to do what he wantsto do, rather than what his parents want him to do. Even though he is going to try and make his own way in life, healso realizes that he needs his parents. Julian, like Dade, realizes at the end of the story that he is alone in the world as well. “Wait here, wait here!” he cried and jumped up and began to run for help toward a cluster of lights he saw in the distance ahead of him. “Help, help!” he shouted, but his voice was thin, scarcely a thread if sound.

His dying words supposedly expressed his recognition, that with his death, Christianity would become the empire's state religion. Julian was a pagan and for him to admit that when he died Christianity would flourish, was something that perhaps he knew all along and he was telling his mother to accept change and live with certain realities.

“If you want somebody to change their mind, it’s no good arguing. You’ve got to reach the heart.” By Dr. Jane Goodall
valentina_108 [34]

Answer:

“If you want to change their mind, it’s no good arguing. You’re got to reach the heart.” By Dr. Jane Goodall. In my opinion I think it means you shouldn’t argue to change someone’s mind like you should really understand them and another opinion I think it means that you have to connect with people to get them to change their mind. Explanation arguing normally only makes people more determined just out of spite towards you. In conclusion, it will always be best to find a common ground with them and work it out because when you argue with some one they just get mad and think that you are trying to undermine them or that you are trying to make them do what you want to happen but if you find a common ground then you are more likely to to convince them of your way so it is always just best to work it out instead of getting angry and getting the other person angry.
