Minorities could feel unrepresented - if the majority is asian, and the minority is white, white people may feel unrepresented by an asian elected official.
The elected official may not understand the culture of the minorities.
The elected official may not understand the problems of the minority society.
It would definitely depend on the trait for example, if the trait falls under it's methods of defense it'll definitely increase it's chance of survival and maybe bump it up the food chain.
