Answer:

In addition to the drain of silver, by 1838 the number of Chinese opium addicts had grown to between four and 12 million and the Daoguang Emperor demanded action. Officials at the court who advocated legalizing and taxing the trade were defeated by those who advocated suppressing it. The Emperor sent the leader of the hard line faction, Special Imperial Commissioner Lin Zexu, to Canton, where he quickly arrested Chinese opium dealers and summarily demanded that foreign firms turn over their stocks with no compensation. When they refused, Lin stopped trade altogether and placed the foreign residents under virtual siege in their factories. The British Superintendent of Trade in China Charles Elliot got the British traders to agree to hand over their opium stock with the promise of eventual compensation for their loss from the British government. While this amounted to a tacit acknowledgment that the British government did not disapprove of the trade, it also placed a huge liability on the exchequer. This promise and the inability of the British government to pay it without causing a political storm was an important casus belli for the subsequent British offensive.

A group of students placed a lawn statue of a deer in the middle of a street. The police arrested them. The
12345 [234]

The statue was a public endangerment because it could distract drivers.

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

Though as citizens we enjoy our right of freedom to do whatever we like. It is also important that our freedom doesn’t create a stir among the public. Here the students keeping the deer in the middle of the road will be a shear nuisance for the drivers. If this act of the students was left out then it will become a tumbling block where it would attract many to create a life size statue of whomever they like.

The Government has actually banned and does not encourage such kind of statues to be instilled in public places or pavements creating disturbance to the public.

Which contributed significantly to John F. Kennedy's election to the presidency? (Points : 3) a weak opponent his experience as
Archy [21]

The right answer is televised debates.

The 1960 election elevated the role of images over substance. Both campaigns hired sophisticated marketing specialists to shape the media coverage of the candidates. Television played a crucial role. During the first of four debates, few significant policy differences surfaced, allowing viewers to shape their opinions more on matters of appearance and style. Some 70 million people watched this first-ever televised debate. They saw an obviously uncomfortable Nixon, still weak from a recent illness, perspiring heavily and looking pale, haggard, uneasy, and even sinister before the camera. Kennedy, on the other hand, appeared tanned and calm, projected a cool poise, and offered crisp answers that made him seem equal, if not superior, in his fitness for the nation’s highest office. Kennedy’s popularity immediately shot up in the polls.
