Example: US Congress is split into the House of Representatives and the Senate; the Maryland General Assembly is split into the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates. Is done as an "intrabranch" check on the legislative branch, which has the power of the purse; if the House acts recklessly; the Senate can stop it.
