This is associated with cost and benefit association. The parties think about the benefit and risk of their mutual association. According to the given situation, if my best friend ask me for moving the furniture out of the parent's house without bothering about me for many years and asking for favor for own motive. According to the social exchange theory I should help him by asking to get some own work done or I can ask him to pay some amount that will be utilized during the transportation and dislocation of the furniture. I may also think about the risk of transfer of the furniture as it may cause injury to be due to physical strain by lifting furniture.

Reciprocity norm: It is the process of exchange of things between people to attain mutual benefit. Here, I should ask for a help or money to my friend in return of favor of translocating the furniture.
