The Spanish stifled the religious services of the Pueblo Indians, utilized Mexican Indians to implement their control, constrained the Pueblos to work for them and spread infections all through the area. A number of the Pueblo's religious pioneers, including the inevitable pioneer of the outcome Po'pay, were striven for witchcraft and sold into subjugation.
King Philip's War (otherwise called Metacom's Rebellion) denoted the last real exertion by the Indians of southern New England to drive out the English pioneers. Driven by Metacom, the Pokanoket boss called 'Ruler Philip' by the English, the groups referred to today as Wampanoag Indians joined with the Nipmucks, Pocumtucks, and Narragansetts in a grisly uprising.
