Field correspondents may face dangerous and difficult conditions and might be called upon to communicate with many different kinds of people in many languages. While getting the story is important, the reporter must also stay safe while getting as close to the action as possible. They need the ability to assess situations, get accurate information and facts from sources, and find the human element that may or may not be obvious in the videotape.
So they need religious, cultural, political, and language knowledge.
