If carbon dioxide levels in the blood increase, the ph will decrease, causing acidosis.

This happens because carbon dioxide forms carbonic acid, H2CO3 when it is dissolved in water. Carbon acid can lose two H atoms or protons. The loss of protons in a solution is what makes that solution acidic.</span>
