anygoal [31]

The executioner (symbol)  He struggled as a man condemned to death struggles in the hands of the executioner, knowing that he cannot save himself. (Excerpt) The executioner symbolizes death. Ivan Ilyich realizes that he cannot escape death. (significance)

the black hole (symbol) He felt that his agony was due to his being thrust into that black hole and still more to his not being able to get right into it.(excerpt) The black hole symbolizes Ivan Ilyich’s refusal to accept death. It also symbolizes his denial that his life has lacked meaning or purpose. This denial prolongs and worsens his misery. (significance)

the light (symbol) Suddenly some force struck him in the chest and side, making it still harder to breathe, and he fell through the hole and there at the bottom was a light…  At that very moment Ivan Ilyich fell through and caught sight of the light, and it was revealed to him that though his life had not been what it should have been, this could still be rectified…   In place of death there was light.(excerpt) The light symbolizes Ivan Ilyich’s moving from the darkness and ignorance in his life into the final stage of understanding and acceptance of his condition. This acceptance helps him conquer his fear of death. (significance)

What are the similarities between "the golden cat" and "the cat and the moon"
m_a_m_a [10]

In The Golden Cat the tone used by the poet is on a reserved nature as though to show how important the cat is to man, without any form of command or stance. It also helps the reader have an interest as it appears constructed. On the other hand, The Cat and the Moon uses a descriptive tone in its delivery.

How does the tone of the two poems differ? "The Cat and the Moon" has a serious and mysterious tone, while "The Golden Cat" has a happy and regal tone. "The Cat and the Moon" has a distant and angry tone, while "The Golden Cat" has fast-paced, excited tone.

The sun in the golden cat basically symbolizes the attitude of the poem. It is a happy poem, in contrast the cat and the moon is more gloomy.

But what is something SIMILAR about them?

they are both stories about cats. :)

What is the theme of Sonnet 73?
White raven [17]
The theme of William Shakespeare's Sonnet 73 is the importance of the friend of the poet's loving him more strongly because of the temporal state of life. Calling attention to his aging in order to convince his lover of the urgency of full affection, the poet uses images such as "yellow leaves" and "twilight."
