Since the moon is absolutely bursting to the seams with rare materials such as platinum and helium-3 (one is a very rare material on Earth, the latter is an almost-extinct material crucial to detecting nuclear weapons), countries might resort to unsustainable mining of such resources on the moon.

Hence, to prevent such actions and to ensure that the moon is for everyone to use and not just huge countries like the US and China, there should be a set of rules and principles to protect the moon and ensure responsible actions.
