What would have been the most likely result of blacks fighting alongside white Union soldiers?
White raven [17]

Answer:

The issues of emancipation and military service were intertwined from the onset of the Civil War. News from Fort Sumter set off a rush by free black men to enlist in U.S. military units. They were turned away, however, because a Federal law dating from 1792 barred Negroes from bearing arms for the U.S. army (although they had served in the American Revolution and in the War of 1812). In Boston disappointed would-be volunteers met and passed a resolution requesting that the Government modify its laws to permit their enlistment.

The Lincoln administration wrestled with the idea of authorizing the recruitment of black troops, concerned that such a move would prompt the border states to secede. When Gen. John C. Frémont (photo citation: 111-B-3756) in Missouri and Gen. David Hunter (photo citation: 111-B-3580) in South Carolina issued proclamations that emancipated slaves in their military regions and permitted them to enlist, their superiors sternly revoked their orders. By mid-1862, however, the escalating number of former slaves (contrabands), the declining number of white volunteers, and the increasingly pressing personnel needs of the Union Army pushed the Government into reconsidering the ban.

What is the purpose of the play within the play? How does it provide a commentary on the action of the larger play?
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

The purpose of the play within the play is to give Hamlet an evidence against Claudius who murdered his father. The play was enacted in order to catch Claudius in his conscience concerning the murder of Hamlet's father.

The play enables us to concentrate on the real play which is being enacted, as Hamlet's eyes were fixed on his uncle's face with the King trying hard not to show by his face what he is feeling. There was a confirmation of Claudius's Guilt. Claudius seems to be frightened at the exit of the player Queen. The shorter play gave the larger play a whole clearer meaning.

Explanation:

"Hamlet" is a tragedy play written by William Shakespeare sometime between 1599 and 1601. The play reveals the murder of Hamlet's father and Hamlet's decision to convict the murderer. Claudius has murdered Hamlet's father in order to become the king and marry the wife.

One major choice an author of fiction makes is to decide the _________________ from which the story is told.
valina [46]

Answer: B (point of view)

Explanation:

Let's go through all the answer options.

A) time of day

The time of day isn't exactly the most important detail, since the story usually takes place over different days, months, or years. The exact time isn't the key point in the story.

B) point of view

This is a pretty important topic, since it influences "how the story is told", which is part of the question.

C) first name of character

While this is nice info to have, it does not affect the way a story is told. It is just a minor convenient detail.

D) camera angle

This one doesn't apply at all since it's a book, not a movie. There are no cameras involved.

Therefore, the best answer is B!

Hope this helps! :)
