HI is most noticeable during the summer and winter. The main cause of the urban heat island effect is from the modification of land surfaces. Waste heat generated by energy usage is a secondary contributor. As a population center grows, it tends to expand its area and increase its average temperature.

In the tropics, the absorbed solar energy is greater than the emitted thermal radiation lost to space. The reverse is true at th
Vinil7 [7]

Answer:

Cyclones and ocean currents transport heat towards the poles

Explanation:

The reason why the tropics is not getting hotter and the poles not getting colder is due to the activities of cyclones and ocean currents which transport heats towards the poles thus enabling the temperatures at the tropics and the poles to remain fairly constant.

Rasek [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

5. The earth’s surface from the edge of the continent to the deep of the ocean

Continental shelf

The continental shelf is a part of the seafloor. This is closest portion of the seafloor to the land.

6. The rock portion of the earth’s surface

lithosphere

The lithosphere is made up of the crust and upper part of the mantle. Most of the rocks on earth are found in the lithosphere. Below the lithosphere is the asthenosphere

7. The part of the earth where plants and animals live

biosphere

The region of earth where all life forms can be found is the biosphere.

8. A fracture in the earth’s crust

Faults

A fault is a fracture within the earth's crust. It is formed as a result of brittle deformation of the earth.

9. Underground water-bearing layers of porous rock, sand or gravel

Aquifer

An aquifer is a porous and permeable formation within the earth that bears ground water.

10. To remove the salt from ocean water or groundwater

Desalination

In areas where the only source of water is ocean water, desalination is important because the saltiness of the water can be removed by this process.

Bowen’s continuous reaction series describes the crystallization behavior of a singlemineral (with variable chemical composition
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

C. plagioclase

Explanation:

From the magma silicate crystals are formed successively when the magma temperature reaches the typical melting temperature for each type of crystal. The first crystals formed at high temperatures can then change their composition or dissolve again. In this way the crystals already formed contribute their ions, molecules and atoms to magma and combine again forming new crystals whose melting temperature is lower than that of the first crystals formed. The new crystals are said to be stable at the lowest temperatures set now. These processes of change are called reactions. As several successive reactions occur as the magma temperature decreases the ordered series of reactions is called the BOWEN series in honor of the Canadian scientist who formulated this concept. There are two types of reactions, the continuous reaction and the discontinuous reaction.

By continuous reaction a crystal formed at high temperatures such as a plagioclase rich in the Ca2 + component gradually varies its composition by replacing a portion of the Ca2 + ions with the Na + ions and a portion of the Al3 + ions with the Si4 + ions. To maintain its neutrality, the replacement of Ca2 + by Na + is coupled with the replacement of Al3 + by Si4 +. The series of continuous reaction starts from the plagioclase rich in Ca2 +, passes through several plagioclase of intermediate composition towards the plagioclase rich in Na +
