Prokaryotes are single-celled organisms that are the earliest and most primitive forms of life on earth. As organized in the Three Domain System, prokaryotes include bacteria and archaeans. Some prokaryotes, such as cyanobacteria, are photosynthetic organisms and are capable of photosynthesis.

Many prokaryotes are extremophiles and can live and thrive in various types of extreme environments including hydrothermal vents, hot springs, swamps, wetlands, and the guts of humans and animals (Helicobacter pylori).

Prokaryotic bacteria can be found almost anywhere and are part of the human microbiota. They live on your skin, in your body, and on everyday objects in your environment.Prokaryotic cells are not as complex as eukaryotic cells. They have no true nucleus as the DNA is not contained within a membrane or separated from the rest of the cell, but is coiled up in a region of the cytoplasm called the nucleoid.

Prokaryotic organisms have varying cell shapes. The most common bacteria shapes are spherical, rod-shaped, and spiral.

Using bacteria as our sample prokaryote, the following structures and organelles can be found in bacterial cells:

Capsule: Found in some bacterial cells, this additional outer covering protects the cell when it is engulfed by other organisms, assists in retaining moisture, and helps the cell adhere to surfaces and nutrients.

Cell Wall: The cell wall is an outer covering that protects the bacterial cell and gives it shape.

Cytoplasm: Cytoplasm is a gel-like substance composed mainly of water that also contains enzymes, salts, cell components, and various organic molecules.

Cell Membrane or Plasma Membrane: The cell membrane surrounds the cell's cytoplasm and regulates the flow of substances in and out of the cell.

Pili (Pilus singular): Hair-like structures on the surface of the cell that attach to other bacterial cells. Shorter pili called fimbriae help bacteria attach to surfaces.

Flagella: Flagella are long, whip-like protrusions that aid in cellular locomotion.

Ribosomes: Ribosomes are cell structures responsible for protein production.

Plasmids: Plasmids are gene-carrying, circular DNA structures that are not involved in reproduction.

Nucleoid Region: Area of the cytoplasm that contains the single bacterial DNA molecule.

Prokaryotic cells lack organelles found in eukaryoitic cells such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticuli, and Golgi complexes. According to the Endosymbiotic Theory, eukaryotic organelles are thought to have evolved from prokaryotic cells living in endosymbiotic relationships with one another.

Like plant cells, bacteria have a cell wall. Some bacteria also have a polysaccharide capsule layer surrounding the cell wall. This is the layer where bacteria produce biofilm, a slimy substance that helps bacterial colonies adhere to surfaces and to each other for protection against antibiotics, chemicals, and other hazardous substances.

Similar to plants and algae, some prokaryotes also have photosynthetic pigments. These light-absorbing pigments enable photosynthetic bacteria to obtain nutrition from lightMost prokaryotes reproduce asexually through a process called binary fission. During binary fission, the single DNA molecule replicates and the original cell is divided into two identical cells.

Steps of Binary Fission

Binary fission begins with DNA replication of the single DNA molecule. Both copies of DNA attach to the cell membrane.

Next, the cell membrane begins to grow between the two DNA molecules. Once the bacterium just about doubles its original size, the cell membrane begins to pinch inward.

A cell wall then forms between the two DNA molecules dividing the original cell into two identical daughter cells.

Although E.coli and other bacteria most commonly reproduce by binary fission, this mode of reproduction does not produce genetic variation within the organism.

 In the 20th century the independence and decolonization movements in India.Israel and Nigeria were all very similar.All the countries had declared independence and decolonization through peace,mantaining structure,and culture groups through understandings with each other. They went about this way to avoid war and violence by trying to understand each other and just separate instead of trying to be united. They went through many obstacles in order to mantain the peace in order to get indepence.  

The independence and ecolonization movements in India,Israel, and Nigeria were similar in many ways, one way was through peace.In documents five and six it talks about ways the people of Israel and Nigeria had avoided violence and advocated peacefully for what they wanted. For instance, In document five it says " We appeal – in this very midst of the onslaught launched against us now months - to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions. We extend our hand to all neighbouring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighbourliness, ... " What is being said here is that the people of Israel even though war was brought upon them , they still advocate through peace. Another instance is in document 6 it says, " These parties negotiated with the British government over constitutional changes, but cooperation among them was the result of expediency rather than an emerging sense of national identity. Because of the essentially regional political alignments of the parties, the British government decided to impose a political solution for Nigeria based on a federally structured constitution." What the author is saying is that both sides of the orginizations advocated in a peaceful way in order to come to an understandable compromise in the end.

Another way the independence and decolonization movements in India,Israel, and Nigeria were similar in more ways than one , one of the similarties being maintaining structure. In documents one and twobasically show and tlk about seperation , mainly to mantain the strucutral order.For example, In document one it says, " His Majesty's Government view with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country. " What is being said here is that through their letter asking for a safe place in order to mantain structure for them in order to still love peacefully.Another example is in document two, it shows Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah together who advocated for the seperation of a Muslim state to maintain peace and structure.  

Finally the last similarity of the independence and decolonization movements in India,Israel, and Nigeria in the 20th century is maintaining culture groups. In documents five and four it talks about and shows mainly Nigeria and India's culture groups. For example in document five it says, " On November 29, 1947, the General Assembly of United Nations passed a resolution calling for the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel. The General Assembly required the inhabitants of Eretz-Israel to take such steps as were necessary on their part for the implementation of that resolution...by virtue of our natural and historic right and on the strength of the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, hereby proclaim the establishment of the Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the state of Israel. " This means by their historical culture right the before state of Israel had to change in order to mantain their culture. Another example is in document four which basically shows the different countries , where their located and their culture groups.

In conclusion, the similarties of the independent and decolonization movements in India,israel,and Nigeria in the 20th century were because of peaceful advocacies, maintaining structure, and maintaining cultural groups.All of the countries had fought without violence but advocated and maintained beliefs and structures that were really important to them.
