A. The south had always been dependent on slaves or indentured servants to accomplish their main market which was the crops. Cotton cultivation was one of the main factors that led to the growth of slavery in the south. This is because there was more demand for cotton and therefore, there needed to be more people to work it. Apart from this, there was also the Southern cultural ideologies which had basically believed in slavery since the beginning. The south had always been based on cash crops and needed lots of people to work it. This led to slavery being part of the culture of the south.
