After the American Civil War, the Reconstruction began. One of the biggest topics during this time was whether or not the South should be punished and take blame for their actions. While some people wanted to forgive the South and move on, some wanted the South to pay.
The Radical Republicans played a big role in the Reconstruction. They believed in equal rights for African Americans and black males ended up with the right to vote. They also wanted to punish Confederate leaders for their crimes during the war and embrace equality among the country.
President Lincolns plan for Reconstruction was very different from the Radical Republicans' idea. While the Radical Republicans thought that the South should pay for what they did, President Lincoln believed that if they took an oath to the Union they should get off free.
I believe that some of the benefits are longer life span, the ability to harvest crops, and the ability to create a thriving community. I think these are good benefits because if you are living in a permanent settlement then you can grow your own crops meaning that you can live off of those crops and you dont have to go foraging for food (sometimes producing nothing). Also a good community is almost essential to living with a group of people beacause it enhances trade and communication with other communities as well. :)
The Articles of confederation was weak in that it had no power to tax, it couldnot enforce the laws in the constitution and couldn't maintain an army.In this case, the central government couldn't accoplish anything because it had no authority as all powers were placed on the states.
The Shays rebellion demostrated to the governement the need for a strong central government, one that could stand firm on basis of its laws and the constitution.This was achieved through the first revolution under the new government that led to the formation of a central government with strong powers and control.
In addition to that, the articles of confederation was weak because it prohibited the collection of direct taxes on income and property yet these taxes were necessary to facilitate the payment of war debts and to enable the country have a working economy.Shays rebellion exposed these weaknessess fro correction.
