The Organization of American States (OAS) is an American international organisation that binds North, Central, and South American countries into a multilateral organisation.The organisation came into existence on April 30, 1948, in Bogota, Colombia and has 34 countries as its members.
It was established with the sole purpose of achieving collective security and to encourage social, political and economic cooperation in Latin America.
